Emma Roberts Gets Trolled for New Bangs at 2018 Critics’ Choice Awards

They say you shouldn’t make a major hair change before a big event, but Emma Roberts clearly didn’t listen to that advice. The 26-year-old actress debuted some new, very blunt bangs at last night’s Critics’ Choice Awards and while she clearly likes her new ‘do (she posted an Instagram picture of herself and boyfriend Evan Peters with the caption, “He got nominated. I got bangs.”), not everyone feels the same way.

A post shared by Emma Roberts (@emmaroberts) on

The American Horror Story actress is used to people having different opinions on her hairstyles, fashions, etc., over the years, but she probably was not expecting to get trolled THIS hard because of a haircut. There are literally thousands of comments rolling in about the ‘do, but here are some of our personal favorites:

Maybe shocking fans with new hairstyles are major awards shows is a new “thing” in Hollywood. If you remember, Selena Gomez showed up to the 2017 American Music Awards with platinum blonde locks for the first time ever. While her lighter strands only lasted for about a month before she went back to brown, Emma’s bangs are gonna take a LOT longer to grow out and return to ~normal~. But hey — as long as she’s happy and feels good, no one should really give a crap about what she does to her own head!

Here’s something you probably didn’t know about beauty sleep — It takes effort! Yes, getting a good night’s rest can wipe away the bags under your eyes and put a smile on your face, but don’t pat yourself on the back just yet. Clocking out for the recommended eight hours simply isn’t enough. News flash — if you’re not taking advantage of your time in bed to apply face masks and moisturize your hands, you’re actually missing out on some of beauty sleep’s benefits.

Take your hair, for instance. The growth and breakage of your strands can actually be affected by the amount of shut-eye you’re getting, so by nodding off, you’ve already taken a great first step to long locks like Ariana Grande. But if you consciously try out these healthy hair hacks before bed, you’ll wake up with an even better kind of bedhead. Sleep on that!

This Mario Kart-Inspired Hair Will Have You Racing Into the Salon

Lately, gray hair and peekaboo dye-jobs are two of the most popular hair trends we’ve seen, and thanks to Colorado-based hairstylist Taylor Rae, you can now rock both of these looks at once. Why? Because Taylor just created a Mario Kart-inspired hairstyle where the layers hidden underneath the gray locks look alarmingly similar to the Rainbow Road course in the popular racing video game. Take a look:

Isn’t it mesmerizing?! Luckily, the stylist spoke with Allure about the look and how it came about, saying, “I love creating vivid rainbow looks, so when my client came in giving me complete creative freedom, I wanted to give her something that really pops.”

Well, it definitely pops, and from one look at Tay’s Instagram, it’s safe to say she absolutely loves experimenting with color.

If you’re feeling daring and want to try something like this for yourself, we’ve got good news! Taylor told the mag that virtually anyone can rock the RR ‘do.

“I definitely think this type of color can look good on everyone,” she explained. “You can change up the top overlay color with blues, purples, and even your natural color to create a custom look.”

Before you go out and buy all sorts of crazy colors of hair dye, though, be warned: this look should only be done by a pro. Why? Well, according to Allure, “The bold hues require precise blending and application to perfect the color melt look.” Still, if you feel compelled to try it, go ahead and make an appointment with a professional colorist! Summer is right around the corner and this rainbow look would be PERFECT for the warm-weather months.

Take it from Taylor, who also told the mag, “Anyone who can rock vivid hair has a fun, funky, outgoing personality and this color could be a way for people on the more timid side of things to try it out.” We couldn’t agree more!

This No-Dye Pastel Unicorn Hair is Perfect for Festival Season

Festival season is officially upon us and we are honestly SO excited because that means we can finally break out all the festival outfits and beauty looks we have been saving since last year. Coachella is kicking things off as we speak and although there’s a lot of time left in the music-filled event, the #OOTDs and #FOTDs are already making us jealous AF.

With great festival looks come great responsibility… and by “responsibility” we mean “expectations to look incredible 24/7.” As much as we love Coachella (and we LOVE Coachella), it can also be the source of major stress. What do you wear? What makeup do you bring? How do you style your hair? A lot goes into planning a trip to a music festival and honestly the thing that stresses out the most is figuring out a hairstyle.

It’s easy to choose to do floral eyeliner, or use glitter sunscreen, because they’re both non-permanent options. But choosing a ‘do takes a lot more commitment. If you want to have short hair for ‘chella then you’ll have short hair for the rest of the year. If you want to have blue highlights then you’ll have blue highlights for at least the next six months. You have to figure out if it you should really #doitforthegram or not.

Thankfully, our very own Lily Marston and Erin Robinson are giving us some tips on how to achieve the perfect non-permanent dye jobs for festival season on a new episode of Beauty Trippin. The girls visited Looks by Laurel in L.A. and Lily got — wait for it — NO-DYE UNICORN HAIR!

Yes, this means you can achieve your unicorn fantasies without all the commitment. The stylists gives the 4-1-1 on hair chalk, hair spray and the best colored extensions — basically, all the tools you need to achieve Lilz’s look. If you need us we’ll literally be painting our hair with the colors of the wind. *cue Pocahontas music*

Jeweled Hair is the Latest Festival Trend That You NEED To Get in on ASAP

Festival season is officially upon us, and while we’ll never get tired of festival-goers sporting beautiful braids and space buns, it’s about time for a new hairstyle to take over events like Coachella, Lollapalooza, Governor’s Ball, etc. We present to you the latest craze — jeweled hair!

When it comes to figuring out what to wear to a music festival, you can never have too much glitter and rhinestones, which is why we’re LOVING this new hair trend SO much! Take a look:

We know… beautiful, isn’t it? So, who’s the genius behind this new trend? According to Popsugar, Janine Ker is an artist-turned-hairstylist who was doing a takeover on Mane Addicts Instagram page when she came up with the incredible style. She created three stunning festival ‘dos that we can’t take our eyes off of, and they all incorporate the one thing we never thought to put in our hair: JEWELS!

Unsurprisingly, Janine’s followers are OBSESSED with the hairstyles she’s created, and although they’re a little too extreme for our day-to-day lives, there are TONS of festivals coming up where they’re totally appropriate. While some people are already planning this ‘do for next year at Coachella, others are ready to do the look justice, like, right now. One Instagram user wrote, “My favorite!!! Headed to the craft store today!” And honestly… SAME.

Again, while we definitely don’t see this being feasible in our everyday lives, we’re SO here for this trendy new festival look, and we hope we see at least some people rocking it at the second weekend of Coachella. Don’t you?!

DNA Braids Have Arrived and We Absolutely Can NOT Look Away

Summer’s not over yet, which means there’s still plenty of time to try out all of the viral hair-how-to trends you can get your hands on. Well, look no further because DNA braids have hit the ‘gram, and they’re getting a ton of attention.

In case you couldn’t tell by the name, DNA braids are braids in the shape of a double helix, much like the shape of the DNA inside your body. NGL, we haven’t been this shook by a braid since the fossil braid hit the web earlier this summer! Take a look:

Clearly, you have to be an extremely talented hairstylist to be able to create a braid that’s this complex. In this case, the viral braid was created by Rhode Island-based hairstylist Alexandra Wilson who actually got her inspiration from Instagram!

The stylist told Bustle, “I have actually seen the DNA braid done before, but it’s just not a popular braid. I wanted to recreate it taking smaller sections so that it really made the braid look intricate. I attempted it because I wanted to try something new and different that a lot of people haven’t seen before.”

Well, it’s safe to say she succeeded!

If you’re feeling daring and want to at least try to create some DNA braids yourself, Alexandra was kind enough to upload a tutorial on her Instagram as well. See?

DNA BRAID TUTORIAL!!! Starting off with 3 strands, the middle one being smaller then the others as that will be a stationary strand. When taking a strand from left side you are going over that section, under the middle and adding to right side then taking a small section from right side is then brought under and then over the middle section and added to left section. Make sure your being consistent with that pattern, the braid naturally starts to twist towards left as you go down so you have to keep it tight while braiding or else it will become more difficult. Small sections are always better, they make the braid look more intricate. It’s always hard to fit a tutorial in 1 minute so I may post slower/longer one on IGTV! Happy Braiding 😀💗 . . . #behindthechair @behindthechair_com #modernsalon @modernsalon #americansalon @american_salon @hair.video #hairvideo #beyondtheponytail #beautylaunchpad #hotonbeauty @hotonbeauty @evahairofficial @hair.videos @hairvideoshow #tutorial #braids #dnabraid #hairgoals #hairofinstagram #stylistssupportingstylists #samvilla #hairinspo #hairinspo @mastersofbraids @hairvideosbystylists

E!

Hair trends come and go pretty frequently and, most of the time, they leave us pretty shook. Whether we’re talking about the DNA braids or rainbow undercuts, the styles that hairdressers come up with nowadays are absolutely crazy. But if bright colors and outrageous accessories just aren’t for you, then maybe you should consider rocking the glass hair trend that’s circling your favorite Hollywood cuties at the moment.

What exactly is glass hair? It’s actually pretty simple to accomplish, TBH. Step one: Get your locks cut into a cute, clean bob. Step two: Gloss that bob until it’s shiny AF and basically looks like glass. And that’s it!

Although effortless in theory, it’s not always the easiest to pull off. But a number of our favorite celebrities have been rocking the heck out of this summer trend, making it our new favorite trend. From Dua Lipa to Bella Hadid to the Kardashian-Jenner girls, here are beauties who will make you want to run to your salon and request glass hair, like, yesterday.
